Actually, I forget at times that I'm not the only one on DA who collects guns. My biggest regret is that I didn't get my hands on a DSA FAL Para when I had the chance to buy it at a discount. $1500 seemed like a lot of money at the time...
Yea, if I was going to get a fal it would the para version. I think it looks tens time better then the normal version. Don't feel bad I had A chance to get a psl for 1000 dollars, did not have the money on me at the time, so I ask my dad for a quick loan, went over to pick it up the next day... gone.
I believe it! I'd love to had one since I must have a metric ton of 7.62x39.
I'm guessing that happened after the post-Newtown craziness? In October 2012, I saw PSLs for $800 out the door. Though I'm happy I found my last firearm when I did - a police trade-in USP .45 for $600. I still haven't gotten around to shooting it since there is no .45 ACP ammo for sale within 200 miles of my house. I have ammo (I went a little crazy after I bought my 1911), but I don't want to use any of it until I can at least replace what I shoot.
yea, the only thing that sucks about it, is having to load the belts by hand. Even being a semi auto, putting 100rds through the gun goes fast.
It was pre Newtown, around October. It was only PSL I seen in a local store in my area. Some types of guns are hard to find around here, like H&K 91 clones and FAL's. plus when I looked on gunbroker at the time they where going for 1200 online. Once in a while you will see something other then a AR or AK clone type of gun. But it is a lot of the run of the mill stuff. The RPD I got off of gunbroker. Yea, the ammo shortage sucks, I'm seating on tons of empty 223/5.56 brass waiting to be reloaded but finding bullets to reload, not so easy. Seems like bullets and primes are like magazines, hard to find. Next weekend going to a gun show, hopping to find something new to pick up, chances are I'm going to come back empty handed. I know the prices are going to be stupid high, but you never know..
Everyone I know who has a belt-fed has a belt loader... not sure if there's one for the RPD that's available.
Really? Didn't realize that PSLs were getting that expensive. For whatever reason, they never struck my fancy. I had a line on an M1A for $1500, but they sold out within 12 hours.
Oh cool, you roll your own. I heard that there's a run on reloading components too.
I haven't been to a gun show since November (I bought a couple books and a little ammo). It was pretty crazy then and I can't imagine how bad it is now. I heard they had some protestors at one.
There is a belt loader, but its very very rare. Only seen old pictures on forums, never seen one online for sale. I guess if one does come on the market they go for 2+K and they sale fast. I love the belt fed, I would like to get a 1919a4.
Yea, the price are starting to come down a little, but when the panic buying started, seen them online going for 2+k. Now they are about 1500. I had a M1A socom 16, but I sold it several weeks ago, I did not shoot it much and just lost interest in it, I got about what I paid for it, was able to got two new lever guns.
yea, some thing are a most on the reloading. If I had to buy factory 458lott rounds, I would be broke all the time if I wanted to shoot it.
I have not been to one in a couple of years. I don't see me getting any thing knowing that most gun show price are higher then normal and chances are now they are even more higher.
I have a friend with a semi-auto M1919 and it's something of a money pit. Of course you have to get the .308 conversion kit! Belts? You need cloth for the history connection AND links for actual range time. A6 parts for sale? Awesome! Not to mention that it shoots .30-06 or .308, neither of which is cheap and milsurp is running out.
Your prices are coming down a little maybe. My state is one the verge of banning sales of this stuff and prices are totally off the rails - IF you can find them. I have a POS CETME I overpaid in 2008, back before I knew better. I could probably at least get my money back, but now, I'm genuinely afraid to let it go. I even have a spare M1 carbine that I bought purely to sell (since the carbine market went crazy after Band of Brothers came out), but that's on the banned list too.
Whoa... I feel awful about shooting my Marlin 1894 since .44 magnum is almost a dollar a round. I can't even imagine the expense of .458.
Gun show prices tend to be lower on magazines (if you can find them). My neighborhood gun shop, which I never visit due to bad service and worse prices was selling standard Glock Magazines for $40 each even before this craziness. In general, it's better to pick out a few good FFLs who treat you like a human being and at least try to stay close to MSRP. Is it just me or are gun shops some of the most abusive retail businesses in the world? Yeah, I get that they're selling guns and have real safety and security concerns, but do they have to be raging d-bags about it?
yea, the cost of shooting one is what is keeping me from going through and buying one. Other then the RPD, there really is no other cheap belt feds that under the 4grand. Would like to get one of the AR-15 belt fed uppers, but they are a good 5+grand.
Some store are still high on price, it just depends on what you are looking for. Any of the black rifle it is a crap shoot to find. Even the high price ones sale fast. I'm hopping PA is one of the states that passes a bill that would null any ban, they have a bill written up, just needs to pass, plus the local county sheriff did release that he would not enforce any new ban. Just hope all the crap dies down soon, get thing back to normal prices and or close to normal.
When I first got the gun, I did not have the dies yet, and the only way at the time to get brass was if I bought factory rounds, for 20rds of Hornady 500gr DSG solids cost me 90bucks. But once you get the brass, everything else is pretty cheap and it brings the price down a lot.
It can't be any worse then what cheaper then dirt is doing. I order 5x AR mags from Mako group, for about 100dollar, I have to wait a while but no way in hell am I paying 100dollars for 1. Yea it is good to find that one good gun store. Even once in a while you will see a deal at gander mountain around here, not much but some time. Beside gander mountain there is no other big box gun store around here, just little gun shops, which I like better. Beside the one, they all have pretty good price, most would be below MSRP. I think you get the more dumb people buying/selling guns at the bigger box stores. When I was picking up my last AR, right before the panic buying started, 3 days after the newtown shooting. As I was waiting on the NICS check, a guy came in wanting to pick up his .22lr assault rifle, wanted to smash my head on the counter. This was at gander mountain.
FFFFUUUUUUU
